Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health disorder that is characterized by experiencing a traumatic event and experiencing stress or discomfort, reliving and/or remembering the event. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that in the past year, 3.6% of U.S. adults over the age of 18 have experienced PTSD. In honor of July being Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month, Teen Connect's very own Youth Advisory Board member, Tejaswi, shared a blog post on the topic of PTSD.

“It is only in sorrow bad weather master's us; in joy we face the storm and defy it.” – Amelia Barr. This is a familiar quote that my neighbor always used to remind me of. He used to tell me this sentence was life changing. But when I heard it for the first time, it did not resonate the same. What did it mean to him that made it special? That is when I learned that perception changes everything, and I mean it. Even in the hardest moments of life, it is important not to let the pain take over, but to let us rise through difficult times. You might be thinking- this is all easy and inspirational to say, but not practically possible for everyone to achieve. And you're not wrong. Many people in the world struggle with what is called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is often an overlooked topic, and awareness is incredibly important.
PTSD is classified as a mental condition that people develop after experiencing trauma or significant stress. This can be caused by many factors, such as wartime casualties or even losing a loved one. It is important to know the symptoms of PTSD so we can help others around if they are experiencing tough times. Common signs include consistent nightmares, dark flashbacks, and low moods. Although PTSD is more common among veterans, it is important to note that PTSD can affect almost anyone at any point in their life. PTSD is not a sign of weakness, but a symbol of the silent resilience that one has faced in life.
If you or your loved one is facing any sort of PTSD like symptoms, do not feel embarrassed to reach out to a certified therapist or psychologist. Seeking help does not show that you are weak, but in fact shows your fierce resilience. Showing empathy and care for those in low parts of life is the best support one can give. This is such a touching and important post for PTSD Awareness Month. Tejaswi’s perspective that PTSD is a "symbol of silent resilience" is incredibly powerful—it truly reframes the conversation from one of struggle to one of strength. It’s so vital to remind people that seeking help is a courageous step and that they aren't alone in facing these "storms."
Reading stories of resilience can be a great way to start that healing journey. For those looking for a specific Book series that explores themes of overcoming adversity and finding inner light, literature can be a wonderful companion. If you're looking for Books to read that offer comfort and perspective during difficult times, checking out some mindful resources is a great way to…
Thank you for highlighting such an important topic. Tejaswi’s point that PTSD is a "symbol of the silent resilience" really resonates, as it reminds us that seeking support is a sign of strength rather than weakness. In many communities, especially for entrepreneurs facing unique systemic pressures, mental wellness and economic stability go hand in hand. Creating a supportive environment can be as simple as utilizing resources like a free business listing for black owned business to foster community growth. Encouraging others to find the right Business directory submission for black owned business can help build a stronger, more resilient network that supports both professional and personal well-being. Thank you again for sharing these helpful resources!
Tejaswi, thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and necessary perspective on PTSD. Your point that PTSD is a 'symbol of the silent resilience' that someone has faced is incredibly powerful. It’s so important to shift the narrative around mental health toward one of strength and recovery. Building a foundation of resilience often starts with small, intentional acts of self-care and maintaining a routine that makes us feel grounded. For instance, staying consistent with personal care habits like a scalp care routine or the soothing experience of a High Frequency Facial can be a small but meaningful way to reclaim a sense of order and peace during difficult times. Thank you for highlighting the resources available and for encouraging others to reach…
