Our teenage years can bring about many changes in our lives. This might include challenges in school, navigating relationships, shifting family dynamics, and so much more. For author Amy Nielsen, she found herself homeless, in an abusive relationship, and pregnant at 17 years old. However, with the support of her community, she found a way to escape and create a better life for herself and her daughter. With these lived experiences, she wrote her book WORTH IT to remind other teenagers in her shoes that there IS hope.
We want to thank Amy Nielsen for deciding to donate a portion of her proceeds from her book to Teen Connect Tampa Bay. Nielsen says, “Teens can get personalized support in finding and connecting with resources. It's programs like Teen Connect Tampa Bay, that saved me. It's my turn to give back”.
In her book, Nielsen declares that “[it] is a crisis every day that any child doesn’t have access to what they need to be the best versions of themselves. It is up to us… to ensure accurate information and accessible resources are available to all children regardless of their needs”. She believes that “everyone deserves to see themselves within the pages of a book”. I am sure many teens can connect to her story on varying levels, whether you feel abandoned by your family, are struggling with homelessness, lack healthy relationships, or need help finding your place in life. She wants you to know: “You have value. You have worth. You are not alone. You matter”.
